Daily Diary 18/01
Today I had to plan my pitch and make a powerpoint for it. The due date for this is tomorrow
My co-host was the one who made our powerpoint but I was also given access to edit it, we decided to edit it together to avoid any confusion. While I am a bit nervous to present in front of the whole class, I'm going to try to revise what the email interview said. To help with the presentation I'll also make cue cards, it was one of the things the interview suggested and I also feel like it would help me

Production Meeting 4
Pitch Evaluation
The feedback we received was mostly about our presenting skills, however we also got one about our scheduling order being confusing. This may have been how it was presented on the slide though. Now that I look back on the schedule though I think the timings for the topics were unrealistic and may have to be changed. Another criticism for the schedule was to add another topic, implying we should add one for celebrity gossip as its part of the remit. We also had suggestions from our tutor: to refer the audience to our social medias at the end of the show as we finish off with the more heavier topics (social awareness / advice column), to have more interactions with others such as audience call-ins responding to each other and to have SFX transitions from each topic that sounds like the radio is literally in a student lounge
One of the strengths of the pitch was that we took turns speaking and were aware to not speak over each other. The audience agreed that we were very good at discussing our reasonings and that we were descriptive (target audience & idents), that we referenced the remit while talking and we also talked about our target audiences psychographics. I think that I improved from my previous pitch, I also mostly followed the advice given by one of the people I interviewed. I had made notes (que cards) as suggested and made them bullet points instead of full on sentences to just read out, I tried to not show any nervousness and I decided on a turn order to present slides with my other presenter. I was more confident about what I was saying and (aside from the remit slide) didn't have too much text on the slides. Unlike the last presentation I had time to rehearse what I was going to say as I wasn't focused on adding all of the detail to my slides like before. I think another reason I did better on the presentation was because I wasn't the only one talking, I had my other presenter talking through some of the slides and I sometimes also talked for her slides to add more detail. In general though I think I presented myself and the product better than my last pitch, partly because of the advice given to me by my interviewee
There are a few things we have to tweak about the radio show. We have to: find someone to read out the news and another guest for the call-in, find another (celebrity gossip) topic to talk about and change the schedule timing. We'd have to change the schedule regardless as we're adding another topic in. My other presenter will source the two other people while I'll change the schedule and do research on what the topic should be about. Our final plan is going to be relatively the same as before but with a new topic added
Daily Diary 19/01
Today I had to do my pitch for my radio show with my other presenter and then write an evaluation for it. I have to do research on what celebrity gossip to talk about and change the general schedule of the show
Similar to this unit, I still don't like presenting either. However I still recognise that I've improved my presenting skills from before and that I can only continue to improve them by continuously doing presentations like this. We also got some valuable feedback for our show from it like having to change the schedule and to add another topic to the show. Another suggestion was to have transition SFX that sounded like the radio show was in a school, which is something we can definitely do. It'd also fit with the theme of "The Student Lounge"

Today I had to finish a draft of my script for the radio show. I have to do two peer assessments on other peoples scripts as homework and then evaluate the peer feedback afterwards, the due date is next Tuesday
I didn't realise that script writing would take so long but even with the whole day dedicated to it, we still didn't completely finish our script. We weren't able to finish the Social Awareness and Outro sections but we can finish it over the weekend. So far I've found script writing to be okay, I'm aware that we can't completely read off a script though and in my opinion we definitely need to go over the script and polish it later on before recording. The other presenter was the one who mostly wrote the script while I wrote most of my lines and edited some of the lines as we went along, mostly because I've never written a script before

Peer Evaluation
Both of my peer assessments had similar comments. Both liked how our introduction was relaxed yet still similar to professional radio shows, how we transition onto the next topic seamlessly, how we used social media interactions and agree that overall we appealed to our target audience very well with our tone and music
Some of the criticisms we got was that our script should be broken into different segments and that the news segments needed to be expanded upon, there was also the question of who the news reporter was going to be. While peer assessing other peoples scripts I agreed that we could format ours better (sectioning off different topics) and I'll bring it up with my co-host as they're the one with the editable script. I also agree with expanding our news article a bit, I assume the peer meant that we didn't have a news bulletin (which is required) in ours yet. We also didn't have a "dessert" news story, one that focused on a more interesting event. I'll consider adding one, but I would have to do further research into a news story for that. For the question of who our news reporter will be, we didn't know who our reporter was going to be yet at the time. I plan on talking about in the next production meeting as it was my co-hosts role to source people for the role
Production Meeting 5
This was the meeting to discuss our peer feedback evaluation. The first subject we talked about though was finishing the script, we only had to finish our outro and the ending segment of the social awareness talk. We then discussed what our feedback was but my co-host only got theirs back from one person, we mostly focused on the criticisms I got because of that. We also talked about who the reporter was going to be and decided who we were going to ask. As we continued to finish the script I also implimented the suggestions made (adding more to our news sections and sectioning off discussion topics by labelling them)
Radio Rehearsal 1
wix doesn't allow videos over 10 minutes
Like the peer feedback said, the script fits with the remit. There are upcoming UK artists such as Kero Kero Bonito played as one of the songs, audience interaction with our competitions and social media links and frequent idents/references to our station name like how we say the Twitter handle of the show is @TheStudentLounge972. We promote audience interaction with our advice column answering the audiences questions from our Twitter, our competition being a call in from an audience member and our guest who'll be in our social awareness section. We clearly state how to interact with us as well by telling the audience our Twitter and phone number to call for the competition
We don't sound like we're reading from a script for the most part but there are definitely a few sentences that need to be tweaked (around the beginning at the spotify/competition sections) as they didn't make sense. Our timing with our voices wasn't bad either and I think how we talked flowed well. However the radio show isn't long enough and only reaches 41 minutes, there are a few parts like the competition and advice column that we had to skip as they would have to be ad libbed but I dont think it'd fill 20 minutes. We'll have to add another topic and possibly expand one of the topics we already have to be longer, I'm thinking of doing that for the spotify discussion but I'd have to talk with my co-host about it first
Daily Diary 25/01
Today I had to do our last production meeting and a rehearsal reading out our script
For our script rehearsal I'm a little worried that we won't reach the one hour mark, I plan to bring that up with my co-host later as we might need another topic to talk about. I'm also a little confident in the script but it definitely needs a little bit of tweaking as some lines just don't sound right

Daily Diary 26/01
Today I finished the changes for my script and produced the final one. I have to find and source all of my music/sfx for everything in my radio show (idents, beds music, adverts, ect.). I don't have to do the music played as my co-host has already done this and all of the clips have to be a .WAV file. The deadline for this is by tomorrow
Overall I'm satisfied with the script. I do think that its possible that I didn't add enough Station Idents in the script and it'd be my fault if they weren't. We decided to extend our news, Q&A and Spotify discussions instead of adding a new topic. Even without the new topic, we ended up with enough time to fill an hour
